Ridiculous - Seems the U.S. is becoming more of a police state than a democracy. The land of opportunity huh?
Representative Lamar Smith (R. TX), I'm not even surprised you've concocted the Stop Online Piracy Act after your involvement in appending the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, as well as your refusal to even consider the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011. Your propensity for typical Republican behavior - mainly greed and tunnel vision - is expected. Do you yearn to be part of that 1%, or are you trying remain as such?
Senator Patrick Leahy, are you still sulking that your Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act was killed 2 years ago? I expected more from you as a Democrat, but it seems like you're just as greedy and narrow minded as Mr. Smith. Just who's lining your pockets?
Mike here shows a great explanation of the cycle events leading up to the SOPA and worth taking 15 minutes of your time to take a look at this:
What if you couldn't access a cool Tom Jones TV clip from 1967 on YouTube, or you posted a photo you found on the Internet of a celebrity for an article you just posted in your blog, or link to another website because someone didn't think it was appropriate?
In theory, users who upload copyrighted content to sites could potentially be held criminally liable. Or be censored from linking to another website that someone else thinks is not appropriate or PC.
There is, of course, more to the bill than meets the eye.
Give this Wiki link a look-see to get more info.
i keep researching the bill to find out what it is truly about, and all i find is people telling either to oppose or support the bill.
Can someone give me the sparknotes version of the bill?
Its about blocking non-Us sites that dont have the us permission to post things or free links to movies and stuff like that so it moreless blocks all internet websites for people in the us..... I think. Its something to that effect.
